Happy Sunday & a Happy New Year!
Hope you are excited about everything this year holds for you. There is something about beginnings - a new year, a new month, a new week, even a new day that gets me all excited and hopeful :-) I hope you are brimming with aspirations too.
Coming to today's post, I share with you a Poem to usher in the New Year. Hope you enjoy reading.
The Journey by Mary Oliver
One day you finally knew what you had to do, and began, though the voices around you kept shouting their bad advice --though the whole house began to tremble, and you felt the old tug at your ankles.
"Mend my life!" each voice cried. But you didn't stop. You knew what you had to do, though the wind pried with its stiff fingers at the very foundations, though their melancholy was terrible.
It was already late enough, and a wild night, and the road full of fallen branches and stones.
But little by little, as you left their voice behind, the stars began to burn through the sheets of clouds, and there was a new voice which you slowly recognized as your own, that kept you company as you strode deeper and deeper into the world, determined to do the only thing you could do --determined to save the only life that you could save.
The beautiful thing about poetry and abstract thoughts is that you get to interpret them in your own way. No two people read the same poem, if you know what I mean.
If you are like me & enjoy poetry, then do consider exploring Mary Oliver's work. Her words transport me to a different world - idyllic and at the same time thought provoking. A world I like to be in or rather escape to.
This particular poem speaks to me in many different ways, but the message that stands out the most is to awaken my inner voice and find the courage to heed it. Allowing my intuition to guide me on my path is a message I would like to carry into the New Year.
What about you? Did the poem speak to you similarly or differently? Let me know in comments or write back, if you feel comfortable 🙂
Happy New Year!!!
Happy new year wishes! A good note to start the year, day. Kindling inner energy always has a great impact.
