Happy Friday!
And welcome to today’s edition of ‘Conscious living with Purnima’. In today’s post I will share with you two ideas to reflect on, experiment with and notice if adopting it transforms your way of being.
Feel free to write back or comment. I would love to hear your thoughts and have deeper conversations with you :)
1. Your life & life experiences are curated especially for you.
Before the rise of Facebook & other social media channels, most of us were more firmly rooted to our lives. But with the advent of Facebook, Instagram and several other media channels, we have become a lot distracted. Easy access to other people’s life (which is skewed to showing only the glamorous parts), often triggers feelings of inadequacy and setting of goals that are not aligned to who we are or what will make us happy. In other words, we tend to lose ourselves and entertain the idea that our own lives are not ‘good enough’.
And this mental conditioning can happen without our conscious awareness.
Today, I invite you to explore a counter thought:
What if you embraced your life fully & made peace with just about everything your life has offered you & is offering you?
If you trust that every experience of yours - good, bad, ugly, has a higher purpose then you become more open & curious about the unfolding of your life. Not panicking, rejecting or frustrated with what you face but opening up to what is and discovering the deeper meaning of your life.
Dorie Clark, author of the book ‘The Long Game’ in his recent blogpost spoke about how he would typically go to the same hair salon & when on one fine day that salon was closed, he was forced to go someplace else which turned out to be a lot better than the place he used to go to. He uses this example to talk about unseen opportunities and how they may serendipitously present themselves.
Same is with our life. Every experience can be a gift or an opportunity if we choose to look at it that way.
Eckart Tolle in his book ‘The New Earth’ says: “Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. How do you know this is the experience you need? Because this is the experience you are having at this moment.”
When we believe that our life is specially curated for our learning & growth, we fall out of the pattern of comparing ourselves to others and focus more fully on living the life given to us. And are also more accepting of the downs in our life.
2. What is meant for you will come to you effortlessly.
Look back at your own life & reflect on the best opportunities & best relationships that you have - Did you have to chase them, or did they happen naturally? And what about the opportunities & relationships you found yourself running after? Did they bring you happiness or suffering?
Your own reflection will give you the answer.
2 Quotes
“Our job is not to comprehend or control everything, but to learn which story we are in and which of the many things calling out in the world is calling to us. Our job is to be fully alive in the life we have, to pick up the invisible thread of our own story and follow where it leads.”
- Michael Meade
“When I run after what I think I want, my days are a furnace of stress and anxiety; if I sit in my own place of patience, what I need flows to me, and without pain. From this I understand that what I want also wants me, is looking for me and attracting me. There is a great secret here for anyone who can grasp it.”
- Rumi
Good one.
